Home on the Range is an award-winning film produced by Lone Chimney Films in association with Sperra Studios. The movie tells the unforgettable story of the authorship, preservation and legacy of the iconic song Home on the Range, and the location where this "unofficial anthem" of the west was written in Smith County, KS.

Award-Winning Film

Home on the Range was directed by Ken Spurgeon and was filmed in Smith Center, El Dorado, Topeka and Wichita, Kansas. 

The film won Best Documentary at the 2017 Wild Bunch Film Festival in Willcox, AZ and the 2018 Western Heritage Wrangler Award as the best Docudrama by the National Cowboy and Western Museum in Oklahoma City, OK.

Cast and Musicians

Featured in the film are the talents of Rance Howard, Buck Taylor, Darby Hinton, Skip Gorman, Mitch Holthus, Mark Mannette and many others. Musicians who contributed to the project include the legendary rock band Kansas, Michael Martin Murphey, Jed Marum, the Sons of the Pioneers and many more.
